Ever wanted to learn how to draw a pigeon for some reason? I do see these birds quite often searching for food around our yard.

It's like they never miss a day to visit and I thought it would be a good idea to try to draw them.

They are also interesting creatures in terms of intelligence, looks, are said to be quite sociable animals but what stands out the most for me is that greenish blue color on their necks.

I find that this feature makes them really stand out in a way.

If you plan to add color to your drawing at the end of the session, then try to include this feature into your artwork as well.

If you want to learn how to draw a pigeon step by step, then here's a step by step tutorial.

In case you need a closer look at a pigeon to study it's shape, I've included this reference image for you.

For this drawing, will we start by drawing the beak, head, then the body, and finally adding in the details like the feathers and eye.

Steps For Drawing A Pigeon

Step 1

The first thing you need to do to draw a pigeon is to sketch out a shape like this. You can go ahead and copy it as I have done over here.

Step 2

At the top of the beak, draw a nicely curved line for the top of the head. Then at the bottom of the beak, continue drawing that line down.

Step 3

Now extend those two lines of the head and draw them as such to create the body of the pigeon. Make the bottom line more rounded.

Step 4

You will now want to continue drawing the first line down and then draw another line that comes up. This will be towards the tail end of the pigeon.

Step 5

Now within that shape, draw a few more lines to indicate the feathers.

Step 6

Next you will want to draw the feet but be sure to make these lines more pointed.

Step 7

Now draw a few more lines for the foot behind the first one. Here we will try to draw it similar to how it is in the reference.

Step 8

Go back to the end of the body and draw a few more lines for the other feathers.

Step 9

Draw a curved line around that previous lines to create a feather shape. Continue adding a few more lines above that. Then head over to the beak area and draw a few uneven short lines.

Step 10

Now all that is left to do is to draw the eye of the pigeon and your drawing should be done. You can go ahead and color it if you want.

Drawing pigeons aren't the easiest subjects to draw but it definitely makes an interesting subject.

Creating this guide as well on how to draw a pigeon was a challenge for me since I tried to get it as close to the reference but I'm pretty satisfied with how this drawing came out overall.
