Based closely on its noisy and expressive 458 Italia sibling, which was created in 2009, the 458 Spider is the first mid-engined convertible to have a fully folding metal roof; a world first according to the Maranello giant. Indeed, the roof can go from open to closed in just 14 seconds. It is, perhaps, the norm for a Spider or 'open' version of any car to display a significant reduction in road handling, performance and aero efficiency but this was emphatically not the case with the 458 Spider, which is reported to have performed just 0.5 seconds slower around Ferrari's Fiorano test track. With sensational steering response, lateral grip and cornering ability this Ferrari is further complemented by its 4.5. naturally aspirated V8 engine. In the words of Autocar magazine, ' to hear the 4.5 litre unit at 9000rpm was to hear the Almighty bellow at you through a rolled up newspaper'.

This fine 1:8 scale model of the Ferrari 458 Spider has been handcrafted and finished in our workshops using detailed colour and material specifications, and original CAD data supplied directly from the drawing office of Ferrari. Furthermore, it has undergone detailed scrutiny by both engineering and design teams to ensure complete accuracy of representation.

Scale guide

At Amalgam Collection we create models at a range of scales. For those of you unfamiliar with the way the system works, these scales represent the ratio between the size of a model and its full size counterpart. Here are the scales we make with the average lengths of the model alongside. Put simply, the bigger the number to the right of the colon, the smaller the model car:

Sculpts…...11 cms (4 inches) long

1:18…...25 cms (10 inches) long

1:12…...38 cms (15 inches) long

1:8….....60 cms (24 inches) long

1:5….....92 cms (36 inches) long

1:4. ….120 cms (48 inches) long

Our primary focus is on collections at 1:18 and 1:8 scales. It's at those scales we create the majority of our model range, with just a few examples at the other scales. Bespoke models are only available at the bigger 1:8 scale and we tend to build one-offs at the even bigger 1:5 or 1:4.
